BLOG: Blog v Wiki

Blogs and wikis are both ways in which a writer can post and share their thoughts with the rest of the internet. However, let's take a deeper dive into what a blog and wiki actually is, and the differences between them. So, a blog is a frequently updated online journal or a place where we can freely express our thoughts. A wiki is a website that allows different people to work together to edit the content of their writing. One of the similarities between blog and wiki is that the writer has a purpose; why create a blog or wiki? Some reasons may be that they want to freely express their thoughts and feel less lonely, or educate others. Nonetheless, the end result of wiki or blog is that they want to share their knowledge/thoughts with the rest of society. The main difference is that while a blog is mostly an individual, wiki is mainly collaborative. In the article "Wikipedia to Limit Changes to Articles on People" shows that all the volunteers who contribute to the article have the power to edit. Therefore not everything is accurate because some people may be novices while others are experienced on wiki. Convergence is very important in today's networked world where we can see information about the news on blogs on wiki rather than turning on our television. We can see information moving all around the world through the use of internet and is easily accessible through our cell phones. Blogs can be used for collaboration as seen in the article "How can we measure the influence of the blogosphere?" in that blogging can be a way of journalism as well. Participatory journalism is a concept that embraces two-way communication (collaboration) between established media and readers. This allows the readers to interact with journalists and news organizations. A new use for wiki that has not been done yet might be to allow access for everyone, including blind people, to the material. Maybe an audio version should be allowed where the wiki page can be listened to rather than just reading the print version.
